"Stop kicking a man while he's down"
"Pray for Todd, don't kick him while he's down."
"We all sin, why are you pointing the finger at him?"
They think it's still all about Todd Bentley. I read comments like this all over the web, self proclaimed defenders of all things Bentley, shaking their fingers at us like we stole from grandma's cookie jar. Don't you get it? It's not about him anymore, he is so five minutes ago.
Now it's about all the rest of the so called "prophets and apostles". I have been reading letter after letter, watching statement after statement - they all have something to say about this "tragedy". News flash - we knew it was a tragedy when it started, we don't have to cover our tracks. I think most of us "revival police" (do I get a badge?) agree that Todd was wrong, hope his marriage gets fixed, and that he fades from the spotlight - forever. But the rest of them are still out there. Distancing themselves, keeping themselves at arms length, backpedaling and trying like mad to keep themselves clean of the mud. (which I did not fling)
Let's get this party started, shall we?
1. John Arnott - His statement is here. He knows Todd was wrong, but he had no idea what was going on in Todd's life. What - he didn't bother to check before "commissioning" him as an "apostle"? I've seen more rigorous questioning when trying to become a member of a church! And John couldn't make sure a potential "apostle" had a sound home life? Oh, he also spills the beans on Todd's "excessive drinking", but doesn't want us to get the wrong idea. Don't worry, we didn't - you did when you supported this circus.
2. Che Ahn - Read him here. He's smarter - keeps it real short. (less to put a spin on later) But he's another great commissioner that didn't fully check out what he was commissioning. He says the enemy will use anything to impugn the work of God. Che is right - the enemy used Todd Bentley.
3. Bill Johnson - He's got a video and a letter. It's a long video though, so you might want to get some lunch first. He reads from a nice pre-written statement, and doesn't speak from his heart. He defends Peter Wagner, and I guess it's our fault that Todd's marriage collapsed. Us with all our relentless enlightenment opposition.
4. Peter Wagner - Silence speaks louder than words. I searched in vain for a public statement from him. I guess he only needs to defend himself to those who already follow him - his wife sent out an email to (I'm assuming) friends and those signed up for, whatever. I got ahold of the email here. Again, it's all our fault, we are gloating and happy about this, we sling mud and call names. Yawn. I'd be amused to see a different lie.
5. Rick Joyner - His nonsense is here. I've already had my say about this piece of work, but I'll comment quickly again. Joyner had a meeting with Todd on 08/07/08, and they discussed his personal issues. Since Joyner claims that 8 is the number of new beginnings, I'm going to assume that August 8th was the beginning of cleaning up Todd's mess.
6. Bob Jones - again, silence. I've heard Jones referred to a a "Father of the Faith" or "Poppa to the Prophets". (ew) Interesting stance for a mentor and "father" - complete and utter silence. You think he'd be rushing to Todd's defense.
7. Dutch Sheets - apology letter here. He was so concerned for Todd, that he waited a few weeks to release an official statement. The Lord told him the "waters were still muddy" - i.e. he didn't know the full extent of Todd's downfall so he didn't want to make any statement that could be turned around on him later. Dutch's concern for the Body of Christ extends no further than from those who agree with him - as for what we "heresy hunters" think, he couldn't care less. Read it for yourselves.
8. Patricia King - Hoo boy, I've saved the best for last. You can watch her amusing video here. Not so surprisingly, she defends Todd. Don't get me wrong, by no means does she defend his sin - oh, no, sin is not to be tolerated. (I wonder what that means for her "ministry"- is she not going to tolerate that sin anymore?) Anyway, once again - it's all our fault. Us with our negative thought and words that we curse Todd with. Yup it's all because of people like me that Todd's marriage is crumbling. It's not the drinking, or the cheating, or the lies - it's me. If only my thoughts had that much power. (Beach house in the Bahamas, beach house in the Bahamas, beach house in the Bahamas...) Clever twist eh? Keeps herself clean, and is still Todd's friend.
So those seem to be the major players in this debacle. The deception is so blatant, and on such a large scale - it's not going to stop. They will all continue to pump out their false doctrine, and pushing their next "evangelist" on the gullible Christians. Watch out people - this is really just the beginning. The calender says so, august is month number eight.
If anyone has any more information, please let me know. Or if I have anything (any facts) down wrong - feel free to correct me.

It becomes more and more obvious within THIS circle (restoration of apostles/prophets/miracles/signs/wonders add now; third heaven visits, out of body travel, talking with dead saints, violent healings, you get the picture):
Dependence on paychecks/riches from Christian followers/supporters = equals = delusional sincerity to blatant compromise or the Roman Catholic Church/prosperity gospel.
This is why you are not to charge for the gospel/ministry. May I suggest tent-making? Worried about necessary time to invest after an 8 hour day? Replace hobbies/TV/internet/sports/vacations with REAL ministry. You'll still even have time for family - your FIRST ministry!
The anonymous in the true body of Christ both work to support themselves and serve/sacrificing hobbies and interests every day.
It is interesting that Bill Johnson preached on this in his Sunday morning teaching session. I have been listening to his 'sermons' of late so as to discern whether he is misguided or a false prophet, and he would rather talk about 'breakthrough', 'revival', 'Todd Bentley' or 'healing' than the Bible. Any reference to the Bible is usually inaccurate and just used to reinforce his reductionist message.
Do you think he is a false teacher or just a bit foolish and lacking in discernment?
Thanks for consolidating this information. I really like the badge...think I'll print mine out now. God bless you and keep up the good work.
I just got a beach house in the Bahamas!
Pete,
I think that many of these people have allowed themselves to be used as false teachers/prophets. I can't judge someone's intentions and motive, so I don't know if they started off that way - with the intent to deceive. But satan will take anything and try to use it and pervert it. So I think he's done just that, used their misconceptions to twist everything.
The problem is when everyone keeps on doing it, they don't stop to think, or even question themselves! They become prideful - with an "I don't care what you think, I"m being radical for the Lord!" attitude. Or in some cases "If you don't like it leave!" and "if you come against me, it must mean I'm being persecuted!" Drives me nuts. I spend so much time reading and studying - and I am so far from perfect in so many areas of thought. I have been wrong, I have jumped on bandwagons without questioning anything. So if someone as small as me knows that she makes mistakes - why can't the bigwigs do some more searching before getting up on a platform to speak to hundreds and thousands.
Everything should be filtered through the Word of God (hence the name of my blog!) and double checked. the Bible is NOT for justification, and people need to see that sometimes it says things that we don't like!!!!
I think I earned me one of these here badges:

love your badge, did you make it yourself?
if you did it's really cool
Godbless
Great summary, Lori! I'm going to stick that patch up, lol!
Lord *Bless* your courage, to contend for the 'Word sister
The term "revival police" has been used by many pro-Lakelanders in a derogatory sense, but Robert Ricciardelli expressed it differently:
We were called "revival police", and other names for asking questions. The fact was that they needed revival police, because there was criminal activity going on. Todd should have been arrested for assault when he kicked a sick man to the ground in Jesus name.

Amen to that!
Amen to your Amen!! We need to glad we are what we are - revival police. Someone needs to serve and protect our church! :) I may just make a t-shirt out of that.....
Let me know when I can order mine :)
The title of this post struck me as highly ironic, as you are discussing a man who kicked, kneed and head-butted the weak, sick, needy people who came to him for healing and prayer.
